Becoming New York

The New Netherland Institute is pleased to announce:

A special event to raise $50,000 in support of the translation program begun by Dr. Charles Gehring in 1974; to recognize his singlehanded contribution to the field of New Netherland studies upon the eve of his retirement; and to celebrate the publication of Russell Shorto’s new book, "TAKING MANHATTAN: The Extraordinary Events That Created New York and Shaped America."

$250.00 – 4:30 pm reception and talk
$750.00 – 4:30 pm reception, talk, exclusive private dinner with Russell Shorto and Dr. Charles Gehring (Limited Seating) 

As of March 3, dinner is sold out. Registration is still available for the reception and talk.

All attendees with receive a signed copy of Mr. Shorto's new book. Additional books, including revised editions of "Island at the Center of the World" and "Amsterdam: A History of the World's Most Liberal City" will be available for purchase.

Schedule:
- 4:30 - 5:30/5:45 p.m. – Reception with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres in Downstairs Lounge
- 5:45 – 7:00 p.m. – Book talk by Russell Shorto in President’s Room, presenting his new release, "Taking Manhattan"
- 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. – Dinner featuring Dutch Cuisine for 25 guests in the Library. Please indicate your choice of either beef rib, salmon, or vegetarian in the drop down menu below. [Dinner is sold out.]

Attendees who are not attending the dinner may return downstairs after the talk, where additional hors d'oeuvres will be offered.
